Happy New Year - Jan. 1, 2009!!
We spent the New Year pretty much like many other day...tending to Sean while he is sick. Sean and I have both been sick ALOT over here not that he is a sickly child, but becuase of where we live. Ferd grew up here so his body seems to adjust to the viruses and bacterias, etc. Us, on the other hand...the viruses go out of their way to enter us. While most missionary wives allow their husband's to do all the outside work and focus only on their homes, I am a little more active. I am very accepted here, and treated like a Filipino , which comes from living amongst them, talking with them, sitting in their homes, eating what they eat, walking and mingling with them..I drive around, shop, live independent...Everything. With that approach there are positives and negatives. Postives, they do not treat me like a foreigner ( at last), I speak the language fluently which allows me to be a part of their world, I am a white skinned Filipino, basically. On the negative side..becuase I am so close with them, I catch what they have, eat things that I probably shouldnt and hence..get sick ALOT! But through it all, I know it's worth it. But I still hate being sick and having Sean sick. I protect Sean alot better than myself, but he still manages to pick up all the bugs that are here.
So, New Year's Day we were fighting a fever of 104.. Thankfully, it only lasted 2 days and he is ok now. I can never be sure what all he has, I just try to treat the symptoms as best as I can.. So, Hello to a whole New Year of fevers, and trials... I just pray that the Lord will protect us and get us through as He has in the past...
