The past two days have been good and bad. The good part is I finally got granted my Permanent Resident Visa!! ( Greencard) After waiting for so long and all the process and tedious work, trips to Manila, San Fernando, Baguio, etc.....it was given to me this week!! Yea!!! This will be a big help in my life here. Usually, we have to go bi monthly to the Immigration office and sit there all day and wait for our number and then pay hefty extension fees. I have no more fees till next year!!! Yea!The bad news that hit me hard was the death of a young American women here. A Peace Corpse worker that was horribly murdered and left in a shallow grave while hiking. I still cant figure out why she went hiking alone. I have been here 4 years and I refuse to allow myself to " get confident". Yes, I want to be independent and live a normal life, but my life has changed forever. Gone are the days of going off by myself and running around without a care in my mind. I must at all times realize that I am in a third world country where people sometimes have the mentality of doing whatever it takes to survive...even if it means stealing and killing. We have had 3 or 4 bodies wash up in the river behind our house, and there was never any investigation or punishment for the guilty. I just feel so sorry for her and her family.Also, the VA Tech shooting has had me very sad this week. My parents live like 20 minutes from there and Ferd and have spent countless days in Blacksburg and even on campus at the college walking around. We had a time of prayer for the families at our Wed. night prayer meeting.
